FluConf 2025

Acknowledgements

FluConf2025 was organized by Aaron MacSween (@ansuz@social.cryptography.dog) with help from a number of volunteers:

Mathilde Grünig reviewed drafts of our policies, suggesting a number of corrections and amendments. She helped to spread word of the event early on, and also shared her experience with setting up and debugging BigBlueButton so that we could host and record our live sessions.

Esther Payne referred us to the Public Health Pledge and was very outspoken about the health risks and ableism at the largest conferences about FOSS.

David Benqué helped review our policies as well, and made a number of helpful suggestions with regards to the site's design and usability.

Manisha Sinha has an incredible amount of experience coordinating live events, and provided a lot of background context and links to examples of effective policy documents. She also shared a lot of insight when it came to disseminating the calls for proposals, coordinating with contributors, arranging the schedule, and promoting the event.

Due to some highly unprofessional and borderline aggressive behaviour from one candidate whose proposed session was rejected, we have opted not to publicly share the names of those who helped review submissions. You know who you are, and your input was greatly appreciated!

Of course, we are very grateful to everyone who contributed a session to our 2025 program. Links to their websites and fediverse acccounts can be be found therein.

Additional thanks to:

Lars Wirzenius - who reviewed each new page of the website and caught a bunch of typos before they'd been shared too widely.

Rowland Mosbergen - who shared a ton of resources about intersectionality and practical steps to improving diversity

Calix from Coopcloud - who volunteered to share or help set up an additional Owncast instance for use during the event. In the end we were a bit too short on time to properly take advantage of the offer, but it was greatly appreciated and we'll keep it in mind for FluConf2026.

Brett Sheffield - who helped to process recordings from BigBlueButton.

...and of course, thanks to everyone who boosted and contributed to discussions leading up to and during the event.
